MS and Modi holds successful bilateral meeting

A day after being sworn in with his 57-member Cabinet of Ministers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held his first bilateral meeting with President Maithripal­a Sirisena.

The President after meeting with premier Modi said the bilateral meeting was very successful and covered many areas including making South Asia stronger and more secure.

President Sirisena also said he’s looking forward to welcoming Premier Narendra Modi to Sri Lanka in the near future.

In the first of a series of bilateral meetings with foreign leaders, Premier Modi and President Sirisena discussed issues of mutual interest at the Hyderabad House.

The Spokespers­on of the Ministry of External Affairs tweeted “Hitting the ground running! In the first of a series of bilateral meetings with foreign leaders lined up today, PM Narendra Modi had a warm meeting with the President of Sri Lanka Maithripal­a Sirisena at the Hyderabad House to discuss bilateral issues of interest”.

President Maithripal­a Sirisena travelled to New Delhi yesterday to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing in ceremony on an invitation extended by the Indian Prime Minister.

Narendra Modi took oath for a second term yesterday at the Rashtrapat­i Bhavan.
