- BY H.M. DHARMAPALA

A double cab used to transport weapons and ammunition in bulk from Kohuwala to the Kuda Oya area in Wellawaya was seized by the Kohuwala police during a raid on a two-storied palatial house on Saranankara Road in Dehiwala.

Kudaoya police and the STF had recently seized a stock of arms and ammunition including firearms, air rifles, live cartridges, hand grenades, short handled axes and swords that had been buried at several locations. Investigations revealed that large stocks of arms and ammunition had been transported to a secret armoury run by Islamic extremists.

The suspects arrested in connection with the incident had provided information on the vehicle used by the extremists to transport arms and ammunition. The main suspect Mohamed Abdul Cassim, a billionaire businessman residing at Saranankara Road in Dehiwala is being questioned with regard to his connections to the extremists.

OIC Crime Investigation Branch H.M. Siriwardene, OIC Anti Vice Unit SI W. M. Madusanka, Sergeant 40380 Kapila, PCS 41876 Bandara and 71957 Ratnayaka, carried out the raid on the instructions of OIC Kohuwala Police IP Dileepa Perera, ASP Samantha Wedage and SSP Muditha Pussella.
