Three fac­ul­ties of Ke­laniya Uni. to open

The ad­min­is­tra­tive au­thor­ity of the Ke­laniya Uni­ver­sity had de­cided to re-open the Sci­ence, Com­merce & Man­age­ment and ICT & Tech­nol­ogy fac­ul­ties of Ke­laniya Uni­ver­sity from Mon­day (3), Ke­laniya Uni­ver­sity’s me­dia unit said.

The uni­ver­sity was tem­po­rar­ily closed ex­cept for the Med­i­cal Fac­ulty on Thurs­day (30) fol­low­ing a protest staged by a group of stu­dents.

The uni­ver­sity’s man­age­ment de­cided to close the uni­ver­sity ex­cept for the med­i­cal fac­ulty at 10.00a.m un­til fur­ther no­tice for se­cu­rity rea­sons.

Its di­rec­tor, Se­nior Lec­turer Wi­jayananda Ru­pas­inghe told Daily Mir­ror that the Uni­ver­sity be­gan lec­tures on Tues­day (28) fol­low­ing the Easter Sun­day ter­ror at­tack. Af­ter re-open­ing the uni­ver­sity, its se­nior man­age­ment had de­cided to close all the sec­tions in­clud­ing lec­ture rooms and can­teens by 9.00 pm for se­cu­rity rea­sons.

How­ever, a group of stu­dents who thought this was un­fair, staged a protest against the de­ci­sion. “Two fac­ul­ties, namely the So­cial Sci­ence and Hu­man­i­ties fac­ul­ties, will re­main closed,” Mr. Ru­pas­inghe said. He said all stu­dents ex­cept those at­tend­ing cour­ses in these two fac­ul­ties will be al­lowed to re­turn.
