BOC concludes Vesak with Bhakthi Gee and Sil observation
The Bank of Ceylon’s (BOC) Buddhist association together with BOC staff organised a series of religious programmes commemorating the Lord Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and parinirvana on the Vesak Poya day in the month of May.
Among those was Vesak Bhakthi Gee an evening of a live spiritual musical evening at the bank’s head office and Sil observation on Vesak Poya day.
The staff of the Bank and their families participated in the annual
Vesak-sil programme organised by the bank’s Buddhist Association for the 55th time to observe Sil.
Within the well structured Sil programme there were many sessions of dharmanushasana (Buddhist preaching) given by well renowned Dharma preachers who gave insights on what Lord Buddha taught.
The programme started at 6:00a.m. by venerable Derangala Dhamma Vissuddhi Thero by initiating the observation of Ata-sil (the eight precepts) followed by offering “Buddha-pooja”.
A number of Dharmadesana (Dhamma surmans) were delivered during the programme which finally ended around 6:00p.m. morning and noon Dhana was provided by the bank’s Buddhist Association.
Buddhist literature and transcriptions of important inscriptions were also handed to all participants by the bank’s Buddhist Association. This was the 55th annual Vesak-sil programme conducted.
It is observed that this programme benefits many staff members and their families in many different ways and it has become one of the most awaited religious events for all of BOC staff, irrespective of their religious beliefs. This year too over five hundred participated to this Sil programme.
