NEW LAND LAWS SOON - GAYANTHA

New land laws will be introduced soon replacing the traditiona­l laws, Minister of Lands Gayantha Karunatill­eke said over the weekend. The Minister addressing the public in Matale said these new laws will replace the traditiona­l land laws which have been existing in this country for a long time.

Citing an example he said the law under which the eldest male child in the family gets the land in the event parents die without writing a last will is to be changed, Minister Karunatill­eke said.

Under the new law, land will be divided equally among all children in the event parents die without writing a last will, he said.
