Upali Attanayake

The 24th death anniversary of talented, actor, lyricist and compere Upali Attanayake falls on June 9. Born on April 17, 1937, the Colombo St. Joseph’s College old boy started acting in stage plays from his school days.he served as a science teacher at Royal College, Colombo and was an English consultant attached to the Vidyodaya entity of the Ceylon University. Upali Attanayake entered films by penning a song for ‘Daruwa Kageda’ and later acted in several movies like Nedeyo, Loka Horu, Janaka Saha Manju, Hingana Kolla, Karumakkarayo, Induta Mal Mitak, Adara Ratne and others.
