The 7th death anniversar­y of award-winning make up artist Ranjith Mathangawe­era who had worked in more than 150 films and a large number of tele dramas including Sri Lanka’s first tele serial ‘Dimuthu Muthu’, falls on June 5.

Tangalle-born Ranjith who studied at Ambalangod­a Theriputta Maha Vidyalaya and Kotte Ananda Sasthralay­a, was 58 at the time of his death. Ranjith who started his career as veteran Ebert Wijesinghe’s assistant in ‘Senakeliya’ in 1971, rose to become one of Sri Lanka’s most sought after make up artists in both films and tele dramas. He worked In film projects like Kinduru Kumari, Menik Maliga, Niliyakata Pem Kalemi, Raktha, Podi Malli, Saranga, Adara Hasuna, Mangala Thegga, Deveni Gamana, Saharawe Sihinaya, Palama Yata, Seilama, Visidela, Hansa Wilak, Thunweni Yamaya, Suddilage Katahwa, Kedapathak­a Chaya, Kulageya and others.

He last worked in Dharmasena Pathiraja’s movie ‘Swaroopa’.

In the tele scene he worked in Dimuthu Muthu, Kadulla, Pitagamkar­ayo, Durganthay­a, Pinibindu and others. He has bagged 4 Presidenti­al awards, 4 Sarasaviya awards, 4 Swarna Sanka awards, 2 Sumathi awards and one OCIC award for the best make up artist.
