Conflicts should not arise on cultural, ethnic lines: President
If conflicts arise due to cultural differences a country cannot go forward and as such everyone should work with mutual understanding and contribute to ensure peace and harmony in the country, said President Maithripala Sirisena.
Everyone should have a proper understanding of the current situation in the country and it is of extreme importance that they be the solution and not the problem.the President assured the government would take every precaution to ensure peace and security.
President Maithripala Sirisena made these remarks addressing the National Ifthar ceremony for Islamic devotees at President’s House yesterday. A large gathering of Islamic devotees and Islamic leaders were present.
The President, who addressed the ceremony, reminded those present that as long as we regard each other with hatred and suspicion there is no hope for peace in the country.
Referring to several issues faced by the Islamic community with regard to false rumours spreading about Muslims in the aftermath of the April 21st attacks with a number of them being incarcerated, the President said he had already called for a report regarding the 559 Muslims arrested and assured that all those that do not have charges against them would be released.
