Poson Festival in Anuradhapu­ra, Mihintale and Thanthirim­ale sacred areas

Viharadhik­ari of the Ruwanwelis­eya in Anuradhapu­ra and Chief Sanghanaya­ke of the Nuwara Kalaviya Ven. Pallegama Hemarathan­a Thero said the Poson Festival in Anuradhapu­ra, Mihintale and Thanthirim­ale sacred areas would be held as usual from June 15 to 17.

Ven. Pallegama Hemarathan­a Thera told media that the organizing committee headed by Anuradhapu­ra Government Agent R.m.wanninayak­e was making arrangemen­ts to hold the festival as in the previous years and to provide facilities to the pilgrims. The Thera said the Poson festival this year would bring about a

Buddhist revival. He said the police and the security forces would provide protection to thousands of pilgrims attending the festival and that they should not have any misgivings about their security. The Thera requested the public not to be misled by false rumours and hear says.

Ven. Hemarathan­a Thera said the religious activities at the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, Ruwanwelis­eya and other Atamastana temples for the three days from June 15 to 17 would include Sil campaigns, Bodhi Poojas, preaching of sermons and meditation sessions.

Chief Incumbent of the Thanthirim­ale Rajamaha Vihara and Deputy Chief Sanghanaya­ka of the North and East Ven.thanthirim­ale Chandarath­ana Thera said the “Lankadeepa” Aloka Pooja illuminati­on would be held on June 15, 16 and 17. He said the religious activities on the Poson full moon Poya day would be telecast over the National Rupavahini.
