Poson Festival in Anuradhapura, Mihintale and Thanthirimale sacred areas

Viharadhikari of the Ruwanweliseya in Anuradhapura and Chief Sanghanayake of the Nuwara Kalaviya Ven. Pallegama Hemarathana Thero said the Poson Festival in Anuradhapura, Mihintale and Thanthirimale sacred areas would be held as usual from June 15 to 17.

Ven. Pallegama Hemarathana Thera told media that the organizing committee headed by Anuradhapura Government Agent R.m.wanninayake was making arrangements to hold the festival as in the previous years and to provide facilities to the pilgrims. The Thera said the Poson festival this year would bring about a

Buddhist revival. He said the police and the security forces would provide protection to thousands of pilgrims attending the festival and that they should not have any misgivings about their security. The Thera requested the public not to be misled by false rumours and hear says.

Ven. Hemarathana Thera said the religious activities at the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, Ruwanweliseya and other Atamastana temples for the three days from June 15 to 17 would include Sil campaigns, Bodhi Poojas, preaching of sermons and meditation sessions.

Chief Incumbent of the Thanthirimale Rajamaha Vihara and Deputy Chief Sanghanayaka of the North and East Ven.thanthirimale Chandarathana Thera said the “Lankadeepa” Aloka Pooja illumination would be held on June 15, 16 and 17. He said the religious activities on the Poson full moon Poya day would be telecast over the National Rupavahini.
