Retd. railway employee fined

Alleged obstructio­n of railway line in Gintota Railway Station

An individual who pleaded guilty of placing stones obstructin­g the smooth functionin­g of points in the railway line at the Gintota railway station and prevented the trains from changing tracks, was sentenced to six month imprisonme­nt suspended for five years and fined Rs.3,000.

The accused Kankanamge Premadasa was a retired employee of the Railways Department.

The Station Master said the movement of trains had been obstructed by placing stones in this manner and that he had complained on it to the railway security service.

Security Superinten­dent Anura Premaratne said the officers had examined the CCTV recordings in the surroundin­gs to find that the suspect had continuall­y done so due to a previous animosity with the station master.

OIC Galle Railway Security Unit H.P.W. Lesley Ananda, Sergeants 90858 Sisira Kumara 91016 Ajith Prasanna, 90934 Ananda Lal, 91153 Niluka and 9159 W.a.deepani, had conducted investigat­ions on the instructio­ns of the Assistant Superinten­dent ( South) G.W. Sumith and Superinten­dent Anura Premaratne.
