ILLEGAL ABORTIONS

-

The above captioned letter by A.g.weerasinghe is very interesting where he refers to ‘ Their thoughts may be influenced by advertisements paid for by the Family Planning Association which encourages small families’, At the same time The World Health Organisation too is earnestly pursuing family planning. Here is a very interesting extract from the book INFERNO by Dan Brown which faces this objection specially from the Catholic Church- Did you know that if you live another 19 years, until the age of 80, you will witness the population triple in your life time. Think of the implications. As you know the Word Health Organization has again increased its forecast predicting there would be some nine billion people on earth before the midpoint of this century. Animal species are going extinct at a precipitously accelerated rate. The demand for dwindling natural resources is skyrocketing, clean water is harder and harder to come by. And on the face of this disaster, the WHO, the gatekeeper of the planet’s health is interested in things like curing diabetes, filling blood banks, battling cancer. Who ever you are, you know the WHO takes over-population very seriously? Recently we spent millions of dollars, sending doctors into Africa to deliver free condoms and educate the people about birth control. Even a bigger army of Catholic missionaries marched on your heels and told the Africans that if they used the condoms; they would go to hell. Africa now has a new environmental issue, land fill overflowing with unused condoms”

The World Health Organisation encourages small families, certainly not in the manner allegedly performed by Dr. Mohamed Shafi, a Gynaecologist of Kurunegala Hospital. The question arises as to whether Sri Lanka should disassociate herself with WHO and carry on regardless.

The decision should be left in the hands of parents to whatever nationality, religion they belong to. Let us not be swayed with emotions and voice of rabblerousers and wait to see the findings of a panel appointed to probe into this matter and whether Dr. Shafi had acted against medical ethics. If the findings are against, then the law must be firm to sentence him to the gallows.
