ICCSL to host centenary celebrations at CSE
As part of ICC centenary celebrations, the International Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka (ICCSL) has been invited to ring the bell and to open trading on the floor of the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) on June 6, 2019.
The International Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka is the domestic chapter of the Paris based international world business organisation, the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
ICCSL has been present in Sri Lanka since 1955 and celebrated its 62nd Annual General meeting in September 2018.
As part of the ongoing centenary celebrations in 2019, ICCSL is proud to be invited to the Colombo Stock Exchange to ring the bell on the trading floor. ICCSL is the premier business chamber in Sri Lanka and acts as the voice for the business community here in Sri Lanka.
The opening bell is rung on the trading floor to signify the start of the day’s trading session. Opening bells ensure order in a marketplace by ensuring that no trades occur before the opening.
This act is considered a great honour by the business community and a symbol of a lifetime achievement. Many prestigious organisations have been invited to ring the bell at CSE. Among them are the International Finance Corporation, the Chartered Financial Analysts and Hatton National Bank.
ICCSL Chairman Dinesh Weerakkody said: “This is a very significant year and we are pleased that many members engage in on-going activities of the chamber. ICC has grown to over 45 million members worldwide and is represented in 130 countries.”
Commenting, CSE Chairman Ray Abeywardena said: “CSE congratulates ICC for completing 100 successful years of furthering the interests of businesses around the world and facilitating global trade. We are pleased to join the series of initiatives organised globally to celebrate the ICC centenary year and we look forward to continuing to work with ICCSL to achieve positive outcomes for the Sri Lankan business and investment community.”
