Met. Dept. calls upon public to name storms

Department of Meteorology has called for public suggestions to name storms in the Northern Indian Ocean.

It said the attention should be drawn to the following criteria when proposing a name.

1. The proposals should not target any political characters, religions or culture.

2. It should not be gender-based.

3. Should not harm ethnic sentiments.

4. Should not be harsh.

5.The word should be easily pronounced and limited to eight words in English.

The proposed names may be sent to Director General, Department of Meteorology Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 07, before June 15.
