Foeticide reported in Dehiwala

A seven- month- old foetus was recovered last morning from waste water canal at Nedimala in Dehiwala by the Mount Lavinia Police.

A group of sanitary workers of the Municipal Council who noticed the embryo floating in the canal had informed police. Mount Lavinia Actg. Magistrate Krishantha Dhamatilleka who visited the scene held the preliminary Magisterial inquiry and ordered the police to refer the foetus to the JMO, Colombo South Teaching Hospital for an autopsy to conduct further investigations.

A senior police official said the foetus might have been thrown into the canal by a woman or an individual from an illegal abortion centre in the early hours of last morning.
