Peo­ple of Tai­wan, with the co­or­di­na­tion of Mr Charles Liu, Direc­tor Taipei Cul­tural Cen­tre in Chen­nai as­sisted the Easter Sun­day vic­tims of Sri Lanka by way of pro­vid­ing wheel­chairs, crutches, spec­ta­cles and many other es­sen­tial items at a cer­e­mony held re­cently.

Mr Peter Fang Direc­tor of Tai­wan Trade Pro­mo­tion Cen­tre and Capt Lee, Pres­i­dent of the Tai­wan­sri Lanka busi­ness coun­cil rep­re­sented the peo­ple of Tai­wan dur­ing the dis­tri­bu­tion cer­e­mony and Min­is­ter of Power and En­ergy Ravi Karunanaya­ke ac­cepted the do­na­tion and thanked

the peo­ple of Tai­wan for their gen­eros­ity and help.

Mrs Mela Karunanaya­ke, Past Dis­trict Gov­er­nor Lions Dis­trict 306 C2 Lion Las­an­tha Goonewar­dena, Pres­i­dent of Lions Club of Colombo Mid City Lion Was­an­tha Weththas­inghe and Mu­nic­i­pal Coun­cil­lors of Colombo Mu­nic­i­pal Coun­cil and many other dig­ni­taries par­tic­i­pated at this event. They fur­ther pro­vided dry ra­tions for vic­tim­ized fam­i­lies and school essentials in­clud­ing ex­er­cise books for chil­dren of those fam­i­lies.

Sew­ing machines were pro­vided to the fam­i­lies to start self­em­ploy­ment ac­tiv­i­ties since most of these fam­i­lies lost their day to day income.

An eye camp was con­ducted and over 1,000 spec­ta­cles were is­sued to the peo­ple, who lost their spec­ta­cles.
