Ayurvedic and traditional medicinal treatment system was famous since early days in Sri Lanka. There were designated areas and villages for consultations and treatment. The most known village for Ayurvedic treatment was ‘Weda Duwa', an island of Ayurvedic medical practitioners, in Raigam Pattuwa, presently known as Kalutara District. This popular ‘Weda Duwa' is now called Wadduwa. While continuing the tradition, Wadduwa has become one of the leading and popular locations in Sri Lanka for Ayurvedic treatment. Amongst the leading names, ‘Life

Ayurveda Resort’ in Thalpitiya, Wadduwa has emerged the trusted player world over in the wellness industry. Located on the seafront on the Wadduwa beach stretch in the fishing village Talpitiya, ‘Life Ayurveda Resort' offers a holiday with inimitable manner to the guests, who get there especially for wellness.

It differs from the usual beach holiday. At the ‘Life Ayurveda Resort’ guests find limitless opportunities to enjoy life with all their senses wide awake.

‘It`s a perfect place to pamper your body. Generally guests come here for long stays over ten days for treatment. Two weeks to one month stays are very common here’ said Anil Nanayakkara, the Managing Director of the property.

The wellness Resort boasts of having luxury 27 rooms in two units of the property- nine in the old ‘garden house wing’ and eighteen in the new building including two modern beach view rooms.

Overlooking the beach, rooms come with vibrant fabrics and have plenty of natural light. All rooms are equipped with attached bathroom with rain shower enclosure, free Wi-fi, electronic safe, fan/ a/c, a satellite television, mini fridge, tea/coffee making facilities, generous toiletries, mosquito net and many more.

The resort is almost 20 years old and after its destruction by the tsunami in 2004, the entire building was rebuilt by its current owner Anil Nanayakkara with love and passion and designed in the typical Sinhala style ‘weda gedara’.

‘Most of our customers are Germans and Europeans head the top in arrivals’ said Nanayakkara.

‘Life Ayurveda Resort’ formally known as Lotus Ayurveda Hotel and currently it consists of a well equipped treatment Centre, a swimming pool and the main restaurant.

‘It was a normal beach resort before tsunami and after extensive refurbishing programme, ‘Life Ayurveda Resort’ was purpose built and designed to an Ayurveda treatment and wellness Resort. My main aim to offer our traditional treatments at a reasonable price’ said Anil Nanayakkara.

Cuisine too is to suit the treatments and mostly it will be vegetarian meals.

‘Chef Dilan Maduranga prepare meal plans after consulting the doctor in the house according to the tri-dosha principle’ Anil added.

The Resort offers ten treatment rooms; a team of experienced Ayurvedic doctors headed by Doctor Thirone Kumarasinghe and therapists takes care of the well-being of the house guests.

‘The treatment is carried out professionally and with great care, ensuring each guest is cared for personally and feels in good hands. The Ayurveda herbal baths are located in artificial stone rocks outdoors. The herb garden is mainly for treatments. And for the kitchen use too’ he added.

Guests can take a dip in the outdoor swimming pool, or spend an afternoon lazing on the beach. Staff can assist with bicycle rental or village walks.

Yoga, meditation, five metre barefoot path and Ayurvedic cooking demonstrations are part of the Ayurveda treatment. The Life Ayurveda Resort also hosts the Lotus Ayurveda Academy for the training and further education of Ayurveda therapists, where 3-month courses are offered.

‘Our main asset is the well equipped Ayurvedic Treatment Centre and it is the focal point of this Resort. Most of the overseas visitors come for treatment or to escape from the busy, hectic life of the city and to overcome stresses’ explained
