Mus­lim Min­is­ters, MPS to meet po­lit­i­cal and re­li­gious lead­ers

Mus­lim Min­is­ters and Par­lia­men­tar­i­ans are to meet Po­lit­i­cal party lead­ers and re­li­gious lead­ers in the com­ing days, two Mus­lim MPS told Par­lia­ment yes­ter­day.

Former Min­is­ter Mo­hamed Hashim Ab­dul Haleem said all Mus­lim MPS and Min­is­ters would meet the Most Ven. Mahanyaka Theras on Tues­day June 11. He said they were meet­ing Prime Min­is­ter Ranil Wick­remesinghe last night while they will meet Op­po­si­tion Leader Mahinda Ra­japaksa today. “We will meet the re­li­gious and po­lit­i­cal lead­ers to see how all com­mu­ni­ties could work to­gether,” he said.

He said the Mus­lim com­mu­nity is yet to get re­dress they have suf­fered af­ter the Easter Sun­day at­tacks. He added that Mus­lims were not able to cel­e­brate Ra­madan this year the way they had done be­fore in the past years.

MP Ab­dul­lah Ma­ha­roof said they would also meet all po­lit­i­cal party lead­ers in­clud­ing the Prime Min­is­ter, Leader of Op­po­si­tion, TNA Leader R Sam­pan­than and JVP Leader Anura Ku­mara Dis­sanayake. He said they also in­tended to meet Colombo’s Arch­bishop Mal­colm Car­di­nal Ran­jith soon.
