The Pres­i­den­tial Sec­re­tariat (PS) has said nec­es­sary ac­tion will be taken against those held re­spon­si­ble for the fail­ure to pre­vent the Easter Sun­day at­tack based on the find­ings of the com­mit­tee ap­pointed by Pres­i­dent Maithri­pala Sirisena no sooner the At­tor­ney Gen­eral’s opin­ion is re­ceived, Chief Gov­ern­ment Whip Gayan­tha Karunathi­lake told Par­lia­ment yes­ter­day.

He said this from a state­ment sent by the Pres­i­den­tial Sec­re­tariat in re­sponse to a ques­tion raised by JVP leader Anura Ku­mara Dis­sanayake whether the com­mit­tee was in the process of prepar­ing the de­tailed re­port.

Quot­ing the state­ment, he said the com­mit­tee had com­pleted its in­ves­ti­ga­tions on May 31, 2019 and that the fi­nal re­port would be handed over to the Pres­i­dent shortly.

The MP asked about the gov­ern­ment’s mech­a­nism to con­vey ac­cu­rate in­for­ma­tion to the peo­ple to counter false news be­ing dis­sem­i­nated.

Quot­ing from the Pres­i­den­tial Sec­re­tariat’s state­ment, the Chief Gov­ern­ment Whip said the po­lice and the tri-forces were brief­ing the peo­ple with daily updates. How­ever, the MP said he was not sat­is­fied and re­quested for a de­tailed answer. The Chief Gov­ern­ment Whip said he would in­form the Pres­i­den­tial Sec­re­tariat on the views ex­pressed on this mat­ter.
