Muslim Ministers, MPS to meet political and religious leaders

Muslim Ministers and Parliament­arians are to meet Political party leaders and religious leaders in the coming days, two Muslim MPS told Parliament yesterday.

Former Minister Mohamed Hashim Abdul Haleem said all Muslim MPS and Ministers would meet the Most Ven. Mahanyaka Theras on Tuesday June 11. He said they were meeting Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesi­nghe last night while they will meet Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa today. “We will meet the religious and political leaders to see how all communitie­s could work together,” he said.

He said the Muslim community is yet to get redress they have suffered after the Easter Sunday attacks. He added that Muslims were not able to celebrate Ramadan this year the way they had done before in the past years.

MP Abdullah Maharoof said they would also meet all political party leaders including the Prime Minister, Leader of Opposition, TNA Leader R Sampanthan and JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayak­e. He said they also intended to meet Colombo’s Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith soon.
