Driver’s helper, who drove fuel bowser while drunk, nabbed
The driver’s helper, who had been driving a fuel bowser under the influence of liquor, was arrested by the Anuradhapura Police.
When he entered the main road haphazardly near the Petroleum Corporation storage in Anuradhapura, police had ordered him to stop, but he ignored the order and sped away. However the police gave chase for about two kilometres and managed to stop the vehicle. They discovered that the vehicle was being driven by the driver’s helper in a drunken state. Under interrogation he stated that he was not in possession of a licence that authorises him to drive that class of vehicles.
He stated that the regular driver of the bowser was on leave and that he undertook to transport the stock of fuel from Sapugaskanda to Anuradhapura. Police said legal action would be taken against the owner of the bowser.
OIC Traffic Branch IP Senaka Prasanna is conducting further investigations.
