Sagala in Germany to promote Lankan ports and logistics sector
Ports and Shipping Minister Sagala Ratnayaka met with German Minister of Transport Andreas Scheuer, Parliamentary State Secretary Steffen Bilger and key decision makers of German businesses at the world’s top logistic event “TRANSPORT LOGISTIC 2019” from June 4–7 in Munich, to promote Sri Lankan ports and logistics sector, a statement said .
High-ranking representatives of the Sri Lankan Port Authority, SAGT, CICT, HIPG and logistic service providers Hayleys Advantis, Mac Holdings and Abans logistics, as well as specialized IT solutions providers such as Kingslake, GEOID and E.C. Holding exhibited at the pavilion and the 1st Sri Lankan pavilion at the Transport Logistic fair was officially opened by Minister Sagala Ratnayaka, Minister of Ports & Shipping and Southern Development and Mr. Steffen Bilger, Parliamentary State Secretary of Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure.
The Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Sri Lanka (AHK Sri Lanka) organized individual meetings for the Sri Lankan delegation with decision makers of Germany’s leading logistic and engineering companies such as DHL, Hapag Lloyd, Siemens, Hamburg Port Consulting, Kuehne + Nagel, DB Schenker and Hellmann to enhance future business opportunities.
Transport Logistic 2019 is the world’s leading trade fair for logistics, mobility, IT, and supply chain management has been taking place in Munich since 1978. It’s an international trade fair where 2,162 exhibitors from 62 countries and regions, 60,726 visitors from 123 countries and regions comes under one roof covering more than 115,000 m2 of exhibition space across nine halls.
Mr. andreas Her genroether, the Chief Delegate of AHK Sri Lanka stated that participating at the world’s leading logistics fair is an ideal avenue for Sri Lanka to promote the country’s strategic geographic location along the main east-west sea route in the Indian Ocean and to develop the Port of Colombo as a logistics, and distribution hub providing all services and facilities for integrated connectivity, beyond transshipment. Furthermore Mr. Hergenroether also mentioned that the individual meetings with Germany’s leading logistic and engineering companies is a great opportunity for the Sri Lankan delegation to enhance know-how and technology transfer in the logistics sector and this is a platform on which to build the relationship between
Germany and Sri Lanka.
