Three suspects fined Rs. 395,000/- for killing sambhur
Three suspects who pleaded guilty of six charges including unlawful entry into the Maduruoya National Park, killing a sambhur and possessing illegal firearms and ammunition were fined Rs.395,000 by the Dehiattakandiya Magistrate Wasana Nawaratne.
The suspects, Samarakoon Mudiyanselage Chamara Madusanka, Konara Mudiyanselage Tilakaratne and Wahala Vanni Mudiyanselage of Serankada had been arrested by the Wildlife Conservation Officers in Maduruoya. The first and the second suspects had been charged for illegal entry to the national park, constructing a foot path, using it, possessing two illegal firearms and ammunition, killing a sambhur and having in their possession a stock of venison. The third suspect had been charged for being part and parcel to the crime.

The first and the second suspects were fined Rs. 135,000 each and the third suspect Rs.150,000.
A team of Wildlife Conservation Officers under Range Wildlife Assistant, Kirthi Sri Nanayakkara had carried out the raid on the instructions of Park Warden M.R. Mohamed.
