Three men are rescued

by jetski after ship erupts in flames

-

Three people have had a lucky escape after their fishing boat went up in flames.

Emergency services were called to the Port Hacking River in Cronulla at 1.10pm after a boat set alight on the water.

The boat was about 300 metres off shore by the time emergency crews arrived.

A NSW Police spokesman confirmed three people were on board, but escaped safely.

Two 35-year-old men and a 28-year-old man had already been removed from the boat and were assisted by members of the public.

The spokesman said ‘the boat is still well alight and has not been put out yet.’

The NSW Police Marine Area Command will wait for the fire to burn out on its own.

Witnesses at Sydney’s popular Cronulla beach said they could see the fire burning from the shore. Police confirmed the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
