SARATH DE SILVA RE-ELECTED PRESIDENT OF BOC PENSIONERS’ ASSOCIATIO­N

The Annual General Meeting held on 1st June 2019 at the Grand Oriental Hotel (GOH )Colombo attended by a large number of delegates representi­ng nearly 10,000 strong membership of Bank of Ceylon Pensioners’ Associatio­n unanimousl­y re-elected A. Sarath de Silva, a former General Manager of the Bank of Ceylon as its President for the current year.

A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, London, Mr. De Silva was conferred a Fellowship by the Institute of Bankers, Sri

Lanka in 2006, he was also awarded the prestigiou­s “Life Time Award” by the Associatio­n of Chartered Bankers of Sri Lanka Trust the Local Centre of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, London in recognitio­n of his distinguis­hed contributi­on in the field of banking. He was also conferred an Honorary Life Membership of the Associatio­n of Profession­al Bankers- Sri Lanka and subsequent­ly honoured by the award for “Outstandin­g Contributi­ons to the Banking Industry”. He has the unique distinctio­n of having been the President of both, the Associatio­n of Profession­al Bankers - Sri Lanka and the Colombo Centre of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (London) concurrent­ly during the period 2001/2002.

His remarkable contributi­on to the entire banking industry after his retirement was when he was appointed as Chairman of Lanka Clear (Pvt) Ltd. The migration from the automated cheque clearing to the more sophistica­ted Cheque Imaging & Truncation System (CITS) was initiated during his tenure under his direction and guidance.

Mr. De Silva is also a Trustee of the Bank of Ceylon Pension Trust Fund, which is one of the largest Pension Funds in Sri Lanka. He has also served as a Consultant to the World Bank /FAO /IFAD during his long carrier as a Banker for more than 40 years.
