CANCELLED JUST DAYS AFTER FIRST EPISODE OF NEW SUPERHERO SERIES AIRED

-

It premiered just last week on DC digital service DC Universe. But already, Swamp Thing - a new series about a plant-based comic book hero - has been cancelled. Deadline announced the news Thursday after just one episode of the show, created by Gary Dauberman and Mark Verheiden, had aired. However, the remaining episodes of the 10 part series will continue to air on schedule with each episode debuting on DC Universe every Friday through the August 2 finale. This news follows a switch up for the series, going from 13 episodes, down to 10 in April.

The scaling back was reportedly due to ‘creative differences,’ according to The Hollywood Reporter. Dauberman has been behind works such as It and Annabelle and Verheiden has lent his talents to Daredevil and Hemlock Grove in the past.

According the outlet, there were also apparently ‘questions about the role of the year-old DC Universe in parent company Warner Media’s larger streaming plans'. The show follows Crystal Reed, played by Abby Arcane, a CDC scientist working to uncover the truth behind a strange disease ripping through her Louisiana hometown. Other actors in the show included Virginia Madsen, Andy Bean, Derek Mears and Henderson Wade.

With the trailer released in late May, viewers got a sneak peak at the failed show. Throughout the clip, a mysterious disease is seen taking over people’s bodies as Crystal fights to figure out why.

The gruesome trailer was unlike the average DC superhero show.
