HELP

- BY SIROHMI

“Last night, I broke up with my girlfriend. She said that she wanted to be free so what could I do?” asked Imran.

“Is there anything that you did to make her feel that way?” asked Shanti.

“Well, she and I have been having problems anyway. I told her that I wanted to spend time with my friends and she said that she felt claustrophobic with me breathing down her neck!” disclosed Imran.

“So it is good that you did not get married. What if you had married and produced children? A divorce is so much harder to handle and get over. Kids from a broken home also need to be handled with special care!” said Paul who was a doctor.

“You should know about the problems within families. I think practically all families need help whether the children are from broken homes or not. It all depends on whether the husband and wife put the marriage first and the children second. Psychologist John Bradshaw wrote a book on The Family and he said that if the marriage has an intimacy dysfunction then the family is at stake” shared Imran.

“I think that most people just get married and live together without trying to make the marriage work. Then they have children and life goes on. We are used to living in families and we just box on” said Shanti. “Maybe we should ask for help from “The Sumithrayo” which has trained volunteers to help with family and even sexual problems. Their service is free and confidential and their telephone line is 011 2692909. They are open on holidays too. So you can go on a Poya day or Sunday” said Imran.
