COUNTRY NEEDS AN ADMINISTRATION TO ENSURE SECURITY FOR EVERYONE
Sri Lanka needs an administration which undertakes a new journey of ensuring the security of all ethnic and religious groups, Minister of Housing, Construction and Cultural Affairs Sajith Premadasa said in Jaffna over the weekend.
“Security has become an aspect which the government should highly focus on in today’s context,” Mr. Premadasa said at the opening of Aradinagar and Sanjivinagar in Jaffna during the weekend.
“Buddha had preached how to ensure the security of the nation by treating all ethnic and religious groups equally. Security of the nation could be ensured by treating people of all communities and religions in an equal manner,”
Mr. Premadasa said. “May all beings be happy and healthy was the statement made by Buddha. He did not say ‘may all Sinhalese be happy and healthy’ but may all beings be happy and healthy. Therefore it is not possible to ensure the security of the nation if one discriminates among the religious and ethnic groups,” he added.
He said one should not distort the teachings of Buddha.
Mr. Premadasa said the main reason for embracing extremism in this country is to gain political mileage. “Those who arouse extremism should be aware that people vote for politicians to serve them and not create ethnic, religious and caste differences,” he said.
