Kataragama PS accuses UDA for loss of revenue
Chairman of the Kataragama Pradeshiya Sabha Chanaka Amil Rangana accused the Urban Development Authority of depriving a colossal income of Rs.4 million to the Pradeshiya Sabha by obstructing the area usually leased by the Pradeshiya Sabha to the traders to run temporary stalls during the festival.
He pointed out that UDA had allocated the area to a handful of traders receiving political patronage.
The chairman said although the UDA boasted about developing the town and enhancing its outlook, such work was not being done. He said the traders were reluctant to rent out the stalls in the market complex that would not meet their requirements. He pointed out that the plans prepared by UDA officials in their cosy rooms in Colombo were misfits in view of the local requirements.
