Al Adhan MV, Passara MMV emerge champions
The district tournament of the Under-12
Milo Football Championship, conducted to select the players for the forthcoming and first ever Milo Championship Football Cup scheduled to be held in China, saw Al Adhan MV Badulla and Passara MMV emerge champions in the boys and girls categories respectively at the Uva Province Championship which ended recently.
Al Ilma MV, Gurutalawa along with Al Hiqma MV, Badulla, Passara MMV, Dharmadutha MV, Badulla, S. Thomas’ College, Gurutalawa, S. Thomas’ College, Bandarawela and Gurutalawa Muslim MV were the other six teams to qualify in the boy’s category. In the girl’s category, Haliela MV, Kuttiyagolla MV, Sujatha BV ‘A’, Sujatha BV ‘B’, Kendagolla MV and Gemunu MV, Passara made it to the quarter finals.
Al Adhan MV beat Al Ilma MV in the boys’ final while Passara MMV got the better of Haliela MV in the girls’ final.
The top players from all the provincial tournaments will be selected for the coaching camp which the organizers have planned and will culminate with eight talented players being selected, who will get an opportunity of a lifetime to participate along with players from Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Australia, Pakistan, Colombia, Chile, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago to name a few, at the Milo Champions Football Cup to be held in China.
Thirty one players comprising of 20 boys and 11 girls were selected for the coaching camp after the completion.
Boys – M.R.M. Rifath, M.A. Asmi, M.N.M. Ala, J. Usman, M. Nabeel (Al Adhan MV), K.M. Abeysekera, C. Ranasinghe, Abdul Majith, T.D. Mullegama, Sashen Gajanayake, O.V. Lankesh, M.J.O. Palliyaguru (Dharmadutha College Badulla), A.S.M. Sakeeb, M.J.M. Insath, I.M. Insahath, M.F.M. Fayas (Al Hiqma MV Badulla), M.R. Rila (St Thomas Gurutalawa), M.A.M. Azam (Al Ilma MV Gurutalawa), Kasun Mihiranga, Y.U. Siriwardena (Passara MMV).
Girls – H.M.M. Mayusha Hesanduni, Fathima Sulsha (Hali Ela MMV), J.H. Kaveesha Nethmini (Kuttiyagolla MMV), W.L.A. Dinilpa Omalhara, D.M. Rashmi Bhagya, Imasha Sathsarani, Duneesha Sithlini, Imasha Kalpani (Badulla MMV), K. Chathuni Gihara, K. Tharami Deshika, R.W.V. Shalindi Nimsara (Passara MMV).
The teams that will contest for the final will be selected after the completion of the provincial tournaments which are in progress now. The finals are scheduled to be held on June 22 and 23 at the Nawalapitiya Public ground.
