CATHAL WEDS INDIKA IN SYDNEY
Sydney-born Indika Chandrasekara, who was born in Sydney, and is the youngest of three children of Nelum and Ranjith Chandrasekera married Cathal - the second of four children of Rose and Charles Daynes recently. The bride wore a traditional Kandyan sari for the ceremony, to reflect her mother’s hometown, and a western style wedding dress for the reception. The bridesmaids, Indika’s elder sister, Seshanthi, and her friend Samantha, also wore Kandyan saris. The groomsmen, Cathal’s younger brother, Peter, and Tim, a friend, wore western style suits. The bride’s niece and nephew, children of her oldest sister Surangi, were the flower girl and ring bearer. Cathal and Indika’s marriage represents the combination of cultures and identities, Sri Lankan, Irish and Australian. To reflect this, they plan to celebrate with a small second wedding in Ireland in August 2019, for Cathal’s family there. They will also have another celebration in Sri Lanka at the beginning of 2020 for Indika’s extended family.
