Makes huge investments for the welfare of our cinema industry

“Our intentions are genuine. Savoy Cinemas is also contemplating on establishing a film school in Sri Lanka”

EAP Films and Theatres which is now operating under the brand SAVOY CINEMAS, is planning a mammoth Rs. 600 million investment this year for the well-being of our cinema industry, especially to refurbish all its cinemas to ensure that all theatres in the Savoy Cinemas circuit maintain one standard. Savoy Cinemas CEO Geevaka Pallagama said their vision was to ensure the same standard and quality at Savoy Wellawatte, Savoy Rajagiriya and even Savoy Galle where anyone could identify a Savoy cinema in any part of the country by the unique standard and quality it maintains. “Our company operations will remain under EAP Films and Theatres but our brand will be Savoy Cinemas. We always had a vision and contributed in many ways to the cinema industry by way of producing and upgrading cinema infrastructure etc. But now the main feature is the change and the financial stability that Ben Holdings has brought to us. Savoy 3D recently introduced the real Dolby Atmos technology which is its first and proper full blown version for the first time in Sri Lanka at a cost of more than Rs. 25 million. In addition we have a 44 ft screen. We have 46 theatres in our circuit of which 16 belong to us. Savoy Rajagiriya at the Janajaya building is our newest 38-ft screen with 200 seats. We also acquired National Maharagama recently. We opened a brand new 90-seater cinema in Gampaha recently while most of our cinemas are undergoing refurbishments to maintain uniformity. “In addition to importing foreign films, we also provide funding to local film producers. Producers need not invest all the money as we will join to bear part of the production costs. Laika Productions Sri Lanka will make these investments, supporting our local productions for films lined up in our circuit or even new productions. Disney movies are exclusively distributed through Savoy Cinemas. We have imported the biggest movies to Sri Lanka in the past four to five years. When we distribute imported films we give films to all theatres equally. Avengers Endgame was the recent biggest hit that shattered revenue records in Sri Lanka,” he said. “Our intentions are genuine. Savoy Cinemas is also contemplating on establishing a film school in Sri Lanka.”
