People from many villages using the bridge situated in Dandagamuwa Oya, Galahitiyawa within the Kuliyapitiya Pradeshiya Sabha and Urban Council are facing immense difficulties as the bridge has sunk in the middle.

The Provincial Road Development Authority and Pradeshiya Sabha including the Urban Council had taken steps to completely close down the road for the protection of people of the area.

Environmentalists who visited the place said that the disaster could be attributed to not excavating the Dandagamuwa Oya in a proper manner, adhering to regulations.

The people in the surrounding villages requested the authorities to construct a new bridge enabling two vehicles to go past instead of a narrow bridge used mostly by schoolchildren.

The Kuliyapitiya Urban Council Chairman Lakshman Adikari together with the Kuliyapitiya Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Wijesiri Ekanayaka immediately visited the area and made arrangements with the officials of Government Institutions for an alternative road for the safe usage of people of the area.
