Mahinda begin campaign on winning note

Last year’s semi-finalists Mahinda College Galle began their Under 17 inter-school cricket tournament in style with a convincing 123-run win against Sri Devananda MV Ambalangod­a in the first round match played at Teachers Training Ground in Balapitiya yesterday.

The match got off to a late start due to the wet outfield and was curtailed to 26 overs. Mahinda taking first lease of the wicket were guided by Shakya Sampath who made 62 to help them make a challengin­g score of 191.

Later Mahinda’s bowling trio Kushan Madusha, Sri Lanka youth player Navod Paranavith­ana and Sachin Tilekeratn­e shared nine wickets between them to bundle out the Devans for a paltry 68 runs.
