The three-wheeler fare for the first kilometre would be increased to Rs.60 from today based on last night’s fuel price increase, Lanka Self-employed Professionals National Three-wheeler Federation President Sunil Jayawardana announced.

“Three-wheeler taxi fares have not been increased for the past six years and I as a union leader has opposed any three-wheeler fare increase up to now. We charged Rs.50 for the first kilometre which will now be increased to Rs.60. The cost for the second kilometre will be Rs.40,” he said.

Mr. Jayawardana said the fare revision would apply to all nine provinces. “We did not increase fares after the previous price revision, but this time we no other option. We requested the President to grant three-wheel operators a fuel relief but nothing has happened so far,” he said.
