Ven.athure­liye Rathana Thera vis­its con­tro­ver­sial uni. Bat­ticaloa

Par­lia­men­tar­ian Ven, Athure­liye Rathana Thera who is in the lime­light after his much-talked-about fast last week cre­ated another tense sit­u­a­tion yes­ter­day by visit­ing the con­tro­ver­sial Bat­ticaloa univer­sity which is called by some peo­ple Sharia Univer­sity in Pu­nani, Bat­ticaloa.

He was not al­lowed to en­ter the con­tro­ver­sial premises by the Army but later al­lowed to do so after he gave an un­der­tak­ing to the Valaichche­nai ASP G.s.jaya­sun­dera not to launch a fast or place any Buddha statue in­side the premises.

How­ever, a tense sit­u­a­tion pre­vailed at the en­trance of the venue as there was a de­lay in al­low­ing the monk and his as­so­ciates to en­ter into the premises even after he gave that pledge.

Speak­ing to the me­dia after in­spect­ing the place the Thera said that this institutio­n should be taken over by the gov­ern­ment and be used as a train­ing in­sti­tute for the armed forces.
