By-laws to be implemented to protect consumers
Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council has taken steps to implement a series of by-laws to streamline the affairs of catering services, the supply of food and the service providers. Governor Dhamma Dissanayake said.
It is said that 16 by-laws drafted by the Provincial Council would be forwarded to the local authorities to be adopted and enforced after being sanctioned by the Governor.
Addressing a meeting in the Bulathkohupitiya Pradeshiya Sabha to create awareness to heads of local authorities in that regard, the Governor said the by-laws would be applicable to catering services, reception halls, and vegetable and fruit stalls, quarries, trades, slaughter houses, snack bars, retail shops, hotels ,dansalas, private garden wells, fish stalls, beauty parlours, lodges, hawkers, in the 29 local authorities including the Ratnapura

Municipal Council, Balangoda and Kegalle Urban Councils.

The Governor said the by-laws were intended to protect public health and to save the consumers from unscrupulous traders.
