More than 40% vehicles checked in Monaragala fail emission test

Central Environmen­tal Authority and the Department of Motor Traffic have implemente­d a pilot project with the help of the police to carry out vehicle emission tests at road check points.

More than 41 percent of the vehicles that underwent the vehicle emission test in several roads in the Monaragala District had failed the test.

A senior official of the CEA said 51 vehicles including seven government vehicles were subject to the test of which 21 private vehicles and three government vehicles failed the test. He said the drivers of ten lorries and buses were fined for using diesel mixed with kerosene oil.
