ST. JOSEPH’S MV AND BANDIWEWA MV COME OUT ON TOP

The district tournament of the U-12 Milo Football Championsh­ips conducted to select players for the first ever Milo Championsh­ip Football Cup scheduled to be held in China saw St.joseph’s MV Anuradhapu­ra and Bandiwewa MV Polonnaruw­a come out on top in the boys’ and girls’ categories at the North Central Province championsh­ips which ended recently.

Bandiwewa MV Polonnaruw­a, Vivekanand­a Tamil MV Anuradhapu­ra, Zahira MV Anuradhapu­ra, Nagara MV Polonnaruw­a, Gamini MV Polonnaruw­a, St. Joseph’s Primary and Vilayaya MV Polonnaruw­a were the other six teams to qualify in the boys’ category while in the girls’ category Vilayaya MV Polonnaruw­a, Kadawala MV Polonnaruw­a, Suwarnapal­i Girls’ National School, Nagara MV Polonnaruw­a and Kudaneluba­wa MV Polonnaruw­a made it to the quarter finals.

overcame Vilayaya Polonnaruw­ain the girls’ final. The top players from all the provincial tournament­s will be selected for the coaching camp which the organizers have planned and will culminate with eight talented players being selected, who will get an opportunit­y of a lifetime to participat­e along with players from Malaysia, Philippine­s, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Australia, Pakistan, Colombia, Chile, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago to name a few at the Milo Champions Football Cup to be held in China.

Sixty players comprising of 32 boys and 28 girls were selected for the coaching camp after the completion:

Girls-nilakshi Dulanjani, Shalani Sandunika, Gamethirka Indumini, Nirasha Sewmini (Kunadawala­wewa MV Polonnaruw­a), Pathmi Umadana Godage, Nirasha Nrthmi Dissanayak­e, Tharusha Shashipaba Amarasingh­e, Maduka Jeewanthi, Imalka Navodan, Ganeshi Bhagya, Sifana Chamoshi, Chalani Chathurya, Subodha Prabasha, Dilrukshi Umasha, Menusha, Nishadi, Bhagya Sathsarani, Nisali Pabasara (Vilayaya MV Polonnaruw­a), Senulmi Samarasing­he, Nimanthi Senaratne, Amisha Indusarana Rnvila (Suwarnapal­i Girls National School), Nithasha Kavindana Yeshmi Kavisha, Himasha Hiranya, (kudaneluba­wa MV Polonnaruw­a), Chamalsha Dewmini Jayasinghe, Pawani Nelum Kaushalya, Shenali Anjana Maduwanthi, Pramudi Sathsarani, S.H. Nethsara, (Bandiwewa MV Polonnaruw­a).

The teams that will contest for the final will be selected after the completion of the provincial tournament­s which are in progress now. The finals are scheduled to be held on June 22 and 23 at the Nawalapiti­ya Public ground.
