„Un­em­ployed: Those who are with­out work but cur­rently avail­able for and seeking work dur­ing a given ref­er­ence pe­riod.

„ Fam­ily car­ers: Those who are not look­ing for work or re­main out­side the labour force due to car­ing re­spon­si­bil­i­ties for house­hold mem­bers in­clud­ing chil­dren, the el­derly or the dis­abled.

„The sick or dis­abled: Those who are not look­ing for work or re­main out­side the labour force due to an ill­ness or dis­abil­ity.

„The dis­cour­aged: Those who lack jobs but are not look­ing for jobs, mainly be­cause they have lost hope of find­ing one. Rea­sons for dis­cour­age­ment in­clude: be­liev­ing no suit­able is work avail­able, lack of em­ploy­ers’ re­quire­ments, in­abil­ity to find suit­able work or not know­ing where to seek work.

„Vol­un­tary/other NEETS: Those who are en­gaged in trav­el­ling and/or en­gaged in other ac­tiv­i­ties such as art, mu­sic and self­di­rected learn­ing.
