Unemployed: Those who are without work but currently available for and seeking work during a given reference period.
Family carers: Those who are not looking for work or remain outside the labour force due to caring responsibilities for household members including children, the elderly or the disabled.
The sick or disabled: Those who are not looking for work or remain outside the labour force due to an illness or disability.
The discouraged: Those who lack jobs but are not looking for jobs, mainly because they have lost hope of finding one. Reasons for discouragement include: believing no suitable is work available, lack of employers’ requirements, inability to find suitable work or not knowing where to seek work.
Voluntary/other NEETS: Those who are engaged in travelling and/or engaged in other activities such as art, music and selfdirected learning.
