The French Spring Festival

One of the biggest foreign festivals in Sri Lanka, the French Spring Festival is coming back between June 13th and July 14th. Organised jointly by the Embassy of France in Sri Lanka and the Maldives and the Alliance Française de Kotte, the festival will showcase the excellence and modernity of French culture.

During one month, 10 shows and events will be presented in 8 locations in Colombo and Kandy, showcasing the best of French culture: painting, music, literature, gastronomy, and cinema. Most of them will be free:

JUNE 19TH – Book launch by NIROSHINI GUNASEKARA. Professor at the University of Kelaniya, one of the best specialist­s of French language in Sri Lanka, she will present at the Alliance Française her Sinhala translatio­n of the novel “Memories” by David Foekinos.

JUNE 21ST & 22ND – French DJ Night with LUDO DI LUCCI. He will perform at Café Français (Colombo) and Amaya Hills (Kandy), to celebrate the

Internatio­nal Music Day. JUNE 22ND TO JUNE

26TH - Art painting performanc­es by PHILIPPE BAUDELOCQU­E. Philippe Baudelocqu­e will create artworks on large sections of walls in Colombo, at Park Street, at the French Internatio­nal School of Colombo, and at the Alliance Française de Kotte.

JUNE 27TH – Fashion with Lanka Institute of Fashion Technology (LIFT). An exciting new fashion exhibition, “Exposition de Mode” will be presented at LIFT to celebrate

French fashion through Sri Lankan designers’ creativity and talent.

JULY 3RD – Movie Au-revoir là-haut (See you up there) by ALBERT DUPONTEL. Majestic Cineplex will screen the film event of the year 2017 in France, which won 5 Cesar Awards. It is an incredible story taking place in France in the aftermath of the First World War.

JULY 9TH – Piano Concert by SHANI DILUKA. Shani Diluka is a French famous pianist of Srilanka origins. She will perform at Bishop’s College with Indian musicians Sahana Banerjee at sitar and Prabhu Edouard at tabla. Through her art, she builds bridges between East and West, between her Sri Lankan origins and her life in Europe. JULY 12TH & JULY 14TH – Jazz concert by OCTAVE AND ANATOLE. The collective of musicians will share standards of Gypsy jazz and revisited versions of French classics. They will perform at the Hilton Colombo for a free concert (on registrati­on) and for Bastille Day on July 14th (on invitation). Their performanc­e on July 12th will be accompanie­d by wine and champagne aperitifs provided by Lankan Premium Beverages.
