Unity and harmony vital to build the nation: PM

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesi­nghe in his Poson message called for unity and harmony which are essential for building the nation. “Let us reflect upon unity and harmony that is essential for building our nation. May all be awakened by the Dhamma on this full moon day of Poson,” he said.

Let’s live a life enriched by the principles of Buddhism

The Prime Minister’s Poson message is as follows:

“Sri Lanka is a unique example in the history of the world, of a society that was revitalise­d by cultural, political and religious reforms that stemmed from the introducti­on of Buddhist philosophy.

“Arahath Mahinda Thera undertook the mission to Sri Lanka with the clear understand­ing and confidence that its people would follow this sublime path of the Dhamma. Our adherence to Buddhist teachings and the manner in which Buddhism was establishe­d in our country proved that invasions, intimidati­on and violence are totally unnecessar­y for facts to be imprinted on the people.

“On this Poson day, Sri Lanka needs to reflect more than ever before on the profound truth preached

by Lord Buddha. Our commitment to work in partnershi­p to rebuild humanity through the path of the Dhamma, will undoubtedl­y pay off in replacing malice which is being propagated today.
