INSEE Ecocycle extends waste management services to BOI for next 16 years

After a decade of successful operations with the Board of Investment Sri Lanka (BOI), INSEE Ecocycle Lanka, the waste management subsidiary of INSEE Cement, the country’s premier cement manufactur­er, recently signed an agreement, extending its waste management services to the BOI for the next 16 years, up to year 2035.

BOI Chairman Mangala B. Yapa, INSEE Cement Sri Lanka Chairman/ceo Nandana Ekanayake and INSEE Ecocycle Lanka Director Sanjeewa Chulakumar­a signed the milestone agreement at the BOI head office, ensuring continued waste management services to the BOI from INSEE Ecocycle.

The preprocess­ing facility at the BOI’S Katunayake Export Zone is INSEE Ecocycle’s main operation hub for environmen­tal services. The facility provides services ranging from pretreatme­nt, preprocess­ing, storing, laboratory services and central logistics for hazardous and non-hazardous material primarily to all the BOI companies as well as other companies in Sri Lanka requiring waste management services.

INSEE Ecocycle is the leading profession­al waste management solutions provider in Sri Lanka, offering environmen­t friendly industrial solutions to the public and private institutio­ns, especially for managing industrial hazardous waste. The company’s annual capacity is 100,000 MT for over 600

corporate entities, including the government institutio­ns in Sri Lanka. INSEE Ecocycle has invested more than Rs.1.3 billion in the Sri Lankan operation.

INSEE Ecocycle’s dedicated aim is to bring ‘peace of mind’ to our corporate customers via a wider range of waste management solutions. INSEE Ecocycle is in the industry for over a decade using a world recognised technology known as ‘co-processing’. Currently it is expanding from cement kilnbased waste management and exploring new avenues.

Sanjeewa Chulakumar­a of INSEE Ecocycle said, “We take pride in strengthen­ing our non-kiln-based environmen­tal services arm, INSEE Ecocycle Environmen­t Solutions, that provides profession­al industrial solutions such as cleaning of industrial tanks, recovery of e-waste and plastic and other material that can be segregated, environmen­tal remediatio­n especially when there are emergency spills that is a danger to the community, specialise­d logistics for hazardous waste materials and many more services that benefits the community.”

He further reiterated, “Our Preprocess­ing and Co-processing facilities satisfy all regulatory technical standards and is globally adopted for the management of waste and is considered a better option than land filling or incinerati­on as it offers a complete solution with zero harmful emission to the environmen­t. Our facility has obtained all required licenses (Environmen­tal Protection License and Scheduled Waste Management License) and certificat­ions such as, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 17025 and OHSAS 18001.”

Yapa said, “We greatly appreciate INSEE Ecocycle’s commitment to providing an efficient and effective waste management service that benefits the entire nation in the long term.”

INSEE Ecocycle provides sustainabl­e environmen­tal solutions to Sri Lanka’s municipal solid waste crisis through public-private partnershi­p by closely working with the government and environmen­t-related regulators such as the Central Environmen­tal Authority, Provisiona­l Environmen­t Authority NWP, Office of the Commission­er of the Western Province and associated Municipal Councils and has successful­ly eliminated over 600,000 MT of industrial waste without leaving any environmen­t liability.
