Sri Lankan pilgrims annually visit Mihintale, the birthplace of Buddhism, to commemorate Poson Poya. Illuminating the Mihintale sacred area remains an unbroken tradition.

This year’s Poson festivities in Mihintale were held from June 15 to 17, under the theme ‘Meth Diyen Sith Niwamu’.

During the period over one million devotees visited the sacred area to engage in worship and witness the daily illumination.

Munchee, the flagship brand of Ceylon Biscuits Limited (CBL), commemorated the reverence of Poson Poya by engaging in numerous religious activities surrounding the annual Mihintale Aloka Pooja.

As a much-loved Sri Lankan brand, Munchee understands the importance of promoting the culture and traditional heritage of the country. Supporting this year’s religious, social and cultural activities associated with the Mihintale

Aloka Pooja was an important corporate social responsibility initiative.

Munchee sponsored a Bhakthi Gee competition for Dhamma schools in Anuradhapura. Held in association with the Shasanarakshaka Balamandalaya and the area’s Divisional Secretary’s office, over 100 schools participated in the devotional songs.

Munchee also donated Pin Poth to all devotees who arrived at the sacred area assisting them in observing a meaningful Sil.

Used by most Buddhists, the Pin Potha serves as a small booklet to note down all meritorious work completed. The book was printed courtesy by Munchee and distributed among Buddhist devotees and all Daham Pasal children.

Providing pilgrims with much needed refreshments, Munchee served delicious biscuits to all those attending the Mihintale Aloka Pooja.

In addition, environment-friendly bags were distributed among the devotees with an aim of ensuring cleanliness and beauty of the sacred city and also to protect the environment.

Over the years Munchee has continued to be in the forefront of assisting pilgrims through various CSR initiatives. Devotees and visitors to the Kataragama Kirivehera Temple and Siripada were presented ecofriendly bags during last year’s pilgrim season re-enforcing Munchee’s environmental drive.
