REDUCING FUND ALLOCATIONS JEOPARDISES DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS -S’ GAMUWA GOVERNOR
Sabaragamuwa Governor Dhamma Dissanayake expressed concern about reducing the allocation for development projects in the province by Rs.560 million. Addressing the 97th International Cooperative Movement Day commemorations at the Kegalle Postal Auditorium, he said the cutting down of the allocation would seriously affect the provincial council’s development plan.
He pointed out that the provincial council had planned
several projects to uplift the people’s economy, education facilities and to generate employment opportunities, but this development plan would be obstructed for the want of funds. “Prominent ministers and parliamentarians misuse public funds to uplift their personal and political image while tens of thousands of people have been left to utter misery.
The government has implemented a policy to cut down the funds allocated for the urgent needs of the people and to waste them for political propaganda. The country is facing serious crises.
The leftist movement in the country has failed. The people are levelling slashing attacks on politicians and compelling the 225 parliamentarians to quit. Samurdhi movement is just another failed project.
It was inaugurated to alleviate poverty but today after about 40 years of its inception more than 600,000 people are still depending on the Samurdhi allowance. Samurdhi movement which benefits only the officials should be abolished”, the governor further said.
