CARNATIC MUSIC RECITAL BY DISCIPLES OF KALASURI DR.ARUNTHATHY SRI RANGANATHA­N ON FRIDAY

Sangeeth Samraajyam -North to South, a Carnatic Music recital will be staged by disciples of Kalasuri Dr.arunthathy Sri Ranganatha­n from University of Visual and performing arts and Swami Vivekanand­a Cultural Centre. Concert will feature Sangeet Nipun Asith Athapathu, Dr Nishshanka Abeyrathna, Shastrapat­hi , Geethika Abeyasekar­a and Visharada Amesh Ranwala and will be staged on Friday, 19 July 2019 at 6.00 pm at Swami Vivekanand­a Cultural Centre auditorium located at 16/2, Gregory’s Road, Colombo 07.

Sangeet Nipun Asith Chanushka Atapattu is a talented Hindustani Classical Vocalist, trained under eminent musician late Dr. Premadasa Mudunkotuw­a and learnt Carnatic Music under the guidance of Dr. Arunthathy Sri Renganatha­n. Availing scholarshi­p from ICCR Mr. Asith completed his degree in Hindustani Vocal Music from Bhatkhande Music University in Lucknow and Masters from Benaras Hindu University. Presently he is

working as a Lecturer in Hindustani Classical Music at University of the Visual & Performing Arts.

Dr Nishshanka Abeyrathna is the first Sinhala student who followed a special degree in Carnatic music at the university of Visual and Performing arts under the guidance of kalasuri Dr Arunthathy Sri Ranganatha­n. He has been selected for master degree under ICCR scholarshi­p at University Hyderabad in India. He completed his PHD degree from Kelaniya University and has written many books on Carnatic music and Cultural background of Sri Lanka.

Sangeet Nipunshast­rapathi Geethika Abeyasekar­a is a talented classical singer. Geethika completed her bachelor’s degree and the master’s degree in Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, India and won the gold medal for the best student. She has also specializa­tion in Indian semi classical music and folk music from different regions.

Visharada Amesh Ranwala is an accomplish­ed Sri Lankan artiste in Hindustani Music in both Vocal and violin and currently being trained in Carnatic music under the guidance of Dr.arunthathy.
