‘Government, Tamil leadership take Tamils for a ride’

- BY M.S.M NOORDEEN

The incumbent government is hoodwinking the Tamils but in return the Tamil leaders do not deceive the government. Nevertheless, both the government and the Tamil leadership are jointly cheating the Tamils, Batticaloa District Parliamentarian S.viyalendran said.

He made the above comment at the demonstration held in the Gandhi Poonga in Batticaloa on Saturday urging the release of the Tamil political prisoners.

Addressing the demonstrators, he said that the political prisoners who dedicated themselves and fought for the liberation of a community were languishing in the jail today.

Parliamentarian Viyalendran said he wished to question the authorities that if they could release 11,900 former militants on the basis of rehabilitation following the war ended in 2009, why couldn’t they release the remaining 97 Tamil political prisoners and said that the government under the leadership of the President and the Prime Minister came to power with the support of the minority votes and were ruling even today with the votes and the support of the Tamil leaders.

“The tragic situation today is that the government is hoodwinking the Tamils but the Tamil leaders in return do not deceive the government. However, both the government and the Tamil leaders are jointly cheating the Tamil people. Despite 14 Tamil Parliamentarians had voted to save the government, they are unable to appoint an Accountant to the Divisional Secretariat,” he further said.

“As such, the life span of the government cheating the Tamils continually, is on the brink of ending and the government that used the Tamil leaders towards their benefit by way of getting their votes whenever they wanted by promising to grant a solution to the ethnic issue is in fact cheating them,” Batticaloa District Parliamentarian Viyalendran said.
