PRISONS TRAINING SCHOOL CHIEF JAILER SHOT DEAD

At least four special police teams are investigat­ing into the gunning down of the Chief Jailer of Welikada Prison’s Training School, who sustained fatal injuries in Ambalangod­a on Saturday afternoon, police said.

They said the 44-yearold M. T. Ruwan Thihara, a resident of Ambalangod­a, was

injured when he was shot at by unidentifi­ed gunmen at Kulegoda Junction.

He succumbed to injuries after he was admitted to the Balapitiya Hospital.

The deceased had served in Galle Prison sometime back and had been transferre­d to Welikada.

Meanwhile, a source said that Justice and Prison Reforms Ministry had complained with the Acting IGP requesting to urge the investigat­ion in the shooting of the jailer.
