PRISONS TRAINING SCHOOL CHIEF JAILER SHOT DEAD

The deceased had served in Galle Prison sometime back and had been transferred to Welikada

At least four special police teams are investigating into the gunning down of the Chief Jailer of Welikada Prison’s Training School, who sustained fatal injuries in Ambalangoda on Saturday afternoon, police said.

They said the 44-yearold M. T. Ruwan Thihara, a resident of Ambalangoda, was

injured when he was shot at by unidentified gunmen at Kulegoda Junction.

He succumbed to injuries after he was admitted to the Balapitiya Hospital.

The deceased had served in Galle Prison sometime back and had been transferred to Welikada.

Meanwhile, a source said that Justice and Prison Reforms Ministry had complained with the Acting IGP requesting to urge the investigation in the shooting of the jailer.
