Unemployed graduates protest in Northern Province

- BY SENTHOORAN PRATHEEBAN

The Jaffna Unemployed Graduates launched a protest in front of the Jaffna District Secretariat yesterday calling for attention.

They launched the protest carrying banners that said “Promises of the rulers are untrue”; Grant employment opportunities to all the graduates immediately” and “Do not discriminate graduates”.

The internal and external graduates who took part in the protest shouted slogans against the government stating that the previous governments did not behave in that manner and said that appointments had been given to those who passed out in the year 2016 while those who passed out in 2012 were yet unemployed.

“This act had led the affected students to depression. Employment had been granted based on internal and external graduates and hence we vehemently condemn the government’s act,” said the protestors.

“Further, we launched a protest last Monday in front of the District Secretariat and handed over a petition to the District Secretary after the protest. However, the District Secretary did not give us a firm reply and under these circumstances we are launching islandwide protests demanding employment opportunities. If the government fails to respond to our demand we will launch a major protest,” the unemployed graduates said.
