Kalutara Sinhala Buddhist Group complains to Bribery Commission against UC Chairman

- BY SUNIL THANTRIARACHCHI

Kalutara Sinhala Buddhist Traders and Professionals Society has filed a petition in the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption against the Chairman of the Kalutara Urban Council against alleged malpractices in leasing the stalls in the Kalutara Commercial Complex.

However, Chairman of the Kalutara UC Ameer Naseer said the Commercial Complex was not within the purview of the UC and that the UDA was dealing with all transactions relating to the leasing of stalls.

President of the Organization Jamuni Kamantha Thushara stated that the documents relating to the details of traders, who had been running businesses in the temporary stalls at the Railway Station Road had been changed to mislead the Urban Development Authority.

He stated that the Chairman had forwarded to the UDA a fraudulent document and that a senior official of the UDA was involved in the malpractice.

He further stated that he had more details regarding the alleged malpractice that could be forwarded to the commission when required.

He said that he only furnished a report on the traders who had been running businesses in temporary stalls and that he was not involved in any fraud.
