Dengue Prevention Campaign launched by Dehiwala-mt.lavinia MC

Dehiwala – Mount Lavinia Municipal Council launched a massive Dengue Prevention Campaign in Sylvester Road and Pokuna Road in Mount Lavinia where several dengue positive patients had been reported.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Indika Ellawala said the programme was launched on the request of Municipal Member Ruwan Prasanna Fernando and Secretary of the Kawdana-west Rural Developmen­t Society Anoma Kumudini when several dengue patients were reported from the area.

He said the programme would include a public awareness campaign on the theme “Duty of the people is to keep their environmen­t clean and tidy” .

Dr. Ellawala said the Municipal Council would remove garbage collected by the people and send them to Karadiyana recycling project.

“Dengue Prevention Assistants, with the help of the area residents would remove garbage obstructin­g the free flow of water and instruct the people on methods of keeping their home gardens and the surroundin­gs clean and tidy. Environmen­tal promotion activities that should be undertaken by the public would be given priority. They will be encouraged to collect all garbage and hand them over to the tractors,” he said.

Public Health Inspectors said several tractor loads of discarded materials including old tires, coconut shells, clay pots, bottles, yoghurt cups, plastic containers, and polythene were removed during the programme.
